Running in Rain: 5 Expert Tips

If you’re a runner, chances are you might come up against a little (or a lot) of rain during your training sessions in these winter months. So, if it is raining, should you ditch your run, or power on through?

In a nutshell, YES! You should still run outdoors even if it’s raining. You’ve just got to make things as comfortable for yourself as possible.

Here are our experts’ top five tips:

Top 5 Expert Tips

  1. Wear a visor – it will help keep the rain off your face.
  2. Driving to and from your run? Have a towel and dry clothes in your car (trust us, it is WELL worth it!).
  3. Wear a light rain jacket – if it gets too hot, just tie it around your waist and keep on running.
  4. Anti-chafing roll-on is great for helping that wet clothes irritation.
  5. Your cool down won’t take as long when you’re wet, so get in a hot shower ASAP after you’re done (not that we probably need to remind you of this!).

And remember, be extra careful, as roads and pavements can be extra slippery when wet.

The fact is, running events usually happen come rain, hail or shine, so you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you only trained in dry conditions.
