12WBT makes the City2Surf possible!

Hundreds of 12WBT members from across the country ran or walked Sydney’s iconic City2Surf this year – something they never dreamt possible, before losing weight and increasing their fitness! Check out just a few of their stories…

Jo

Jo at finishThe City2Surf was one of the hardest but most enjoyable things I’ve ever done. If you’d told me at the beginning of this year that I would not just complete but run (apart from the hills!) a 14km race I’d have laughed. Running was one of those things other, much fitter people did. Well, I think I can safely say I am now a runner. With the help of the fabulous 12WBT crew, I have found a new way to live. I still have a way to go but I’m on the right track.

I’m so rapt with how I went with the race.  I’d set myself a goal of completing the 14km in 2 hours or less.  I smashed it!!  According to my Garmin I did it in 1:50:04 and burnt 1682cals in the process. I was really happy with how I managed the race.  I ran probably 70% of it but walked the really hilly parts.  The 12WBT put me in the right head space and with my husband by my side I knew I could do it. This was my longest run ever and I’m just so happy that I finished it within my goal time.

Andrea

Andrea finishI ran a time of 01:19:44 which I’m so happy about. My goal was to get under 90 minutes, so to finish in under 80 minutes is a big achievement for me. I paced myself well for the first 10km and was able to really speed up and make up some time in the last 4km, especially when it was a bit more downhill!! I managed to cut 29 minutes off my time last year and I’m still walking around okay today (last year I could barely get out of my office chair the next day!) It is amazing how 12WBT has changed my life – both fitness wise and nutrition wise. It has given me the confidence (not only because of the weight loss, but because of my increased fitness) to do things I never thought possible!

Wow the City2Surf, what can I say, it was amazing! To see so many fit and keen people and to be one of them was something I never thought would happen. It was the first time I had ever run 14kms (6 months ago I could not even run 1km) and I ran the whole way! I wanted to do the run in under 90 mins and I did – completing it in 84 minutes!  Many of the wonderful people I have meet through the 12WBT were there with me and achieved some great times and also smashed their goals – it was an absolute high to share it with them. I would do it all again tomorrow. Today I am feeling fantastic and can’t wait for next year, where my goal in to finish in less than 75 minutes!

The City2Surf – what an experience! I ran, I walked and ran some more and the feeling of crossing the line for the first time was simply amazing. I knew I’d done it under the time I’d hoped for and was thrilled that I managed the course. I clearly remember thinking back to my 12WBT pre-season goals and ticking that box on my list.  When I met my family I was greeted with huge smiles and hugs and the best congratulations I’ve ever received. The 12WBT really has shown me a new way of life. It has changed my thoughts on what I eat, my image of self and continually gives me the inspiration I need to make it through anything!

I did it! Woo hoo! I am very proud to say that I have completed my Major Milestone for 12WBT Round 2 2012 having run the City2Surf in a time of 98 minutes. It was so amazing to be a part of a massive community event. The atmosphere was electric and took my mind of the freezing cold wind and threatening rain clouds. I ran 99% of the way with a little bit of walking at about the 7.5km mark after the hill. My body felt fantastic for the whole of the run thanks to all my training, and thanks to Mish’s mindset lessons my mind was strong and got me to the finish line!

Susan

Susan at start of City2Surf Wow I did it!!! What an incredible experience. I have never ran more than 7 kms before and now 6 months on and thanks to 12WBT, here I am! I ran a large part of the 14kms and finished in 1 hour 48 minutes, way better than my expected 2 hours 30 minutes.  I am so proud of me! Seeing how proud my husband, children and family were was amazing! I am now planning regular 10km runs and am even considering attempting  a half marathon. Who would of thought at 43 that I would be contemplating something like this, but I know I can do it! . I am being the best role model I can be and showing my children you can do anything you want when you try!
